Description
We are currently looking for a Campaigns & Research Assistant who is available to work from February 2019 for an initial period of six months. The Assistant will be responsible for a range of duties, including supporting the organisation’s campaigning work; compiling media updates; supporting the development of our network; coordinating and attending meetings and drafting notes; liaising with partner NGOs, policymakers and the media; research tasks and administrative work.

Description of Campaigns and Research Assistant role:

The Campaigns and Research Assistant works with the Nairobi Campaigns Team, working closely with the Nairobi Advocacy & Campaigns Manager and supporting our campaign work on South Sudan, as well as ad hoc emergency responses. The work involves a range of duties including:

  • Providing coordination support for design and delivery of Crisis Action’s Nairobi and global campaign work, including:
  • Supporting project management of key campaign products and moments (such as coordinating joint letters and other campaign actions)
  • Monitoring Regional and international media and social media to keep abreast of developments relevant to our campaigns, tracking media pick-up of campaign products and collating media reviews
  • Supporting the organisation’s use of social media, including the Crisis Action twitter account
  • Undertaking research on conflict situations and key political targets, and drafting intel updates, parliamentary and media briefings
  • Supporting the development of campaign products, including social media toolkits and graphics, press releases and joint letters
  • Contributing to development and delivery of office and campaign strategies, including supporting partner, policymaker and media outreach in the Nairobi
  • Providing administrative support to the Crisis Action Nairobi office and global campaign teams, including:
  • Maintaining the central Salesforce contact database, keeping records of meetings and activities, and managing internal filing systems
  • Organising and taking notes of campaign calls and meetings with the team, partners, experts and government officials
  • Supporting monitoring, evaluation and learning for global campaigns by:
  • Maintaining the evidence of change journal to track policy change and impact
  • Collating input from team or partners on evaluations/ post-action debriefs and surveys
  • Providing support to the Global Campaign Director as needed

You will have exposure to senior decision makers in NGOs, the media, and the political world. You will also have the opportunity to engage with the overall project management for global campaigns, including in particular our Yemen campaign. You will also have the opportunity to learn about global conflicts and the development and implementation of international campaign and advocacy strategies.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent organisational administrative and computer/technology skills and Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Has top-notch communication skills, and excellent oral and written English
  • Is a good analyst and creative thinker
  • Is a self-starter, takes the initiative, able to multi-task and flourish in a high-paced environment
  • Has excellent research skills and ability to distil and summarize complex topics into easy-to understand formats for a variety of audiences
  • Has an interest in conflict issues and/or campaigning and advocacy

The following would be an advantage:

  • Direct experience working with civil society organisations and/or government institutions
  • An interest in digital campaigning and graphic design for social media
  • Experience of using and maintaining databases, such as Salesforce
