Ruto’s right hand man has just confirmed that the Deputy President will pick Musalia Mudavadi as his running mate. Speaking at Kass FM, the MP said that Ruto already has Mount Kenya in his pocket and that there is no need of picking the running mate from the region.
“Our Running mate position belongs to Western Region, Dr. William Ruto has already penetrated Mt Kenya and he will get majority of the votes with or without the running mate position… We are going to use the running mate’s position to entice Western Kenya from AZIMIO”
Currently, Mount Kenya is a swing region.If Ruto picks Musalia mudavadi as his running mate,he will lose millions of votes from Mount Kenya.In case he picks a running mate from Mount Kenya,he will lose Western Kenya votes.But it’s wise to pick a running mate from Mount Kenya because the number of votes from that region is three times that of Western Kenya.in any case,Ruto will not be assured of Western votes no matter who becomes his running mate.In 2013 Mudavadi contested for president,he garnered 483,000 votes only—Raila beat him.This time around he is not contesting for president,meaning that he will bring less than 400,000 votes to Ruto.
The DP should not cheat himself that he will get all the Mount Kenya votes without picking a running mate from the region.If Raila picks his running mate from Central Kenya,Ruto may lose votes from the region and remain with Rift Valley only.
