A family in Keiyo buries their kin in a Bamboo made casket as per his wishes.

The late Joseph Kipchoge Chebasa from Matungen village in Keiyo, Elgeyo Marakwet county, informed his family while he was alive to bury him in a bamboo made casket as a way of conserving the environment

The family spent Ksh 10,000 to make the casket which the man was buried in. Villagers who thronged the homestead were amazed by the design of the casket which is cheap and easy to make.

This is the first time a Kenyan is buried in such a casket. The Bamboo casket is even more durable than the usual casket which is made of timber, it’s also light.

This might be a trend in future especially in Keiyo where Bamboo trees are easily accessible
