Leonard Mwithiga has been arrested in USA for planning to kill his wife. The experienced banker had approached Uber Driver to help him get a hitman. The driver approached the wrong person,a police officer.
Leonard’s plan was for his wife to be injected with poison that would kill her slowly like cancer. He had planned to travel to Kenya in February 2024 to allow the hitman do his job such that in case of investigations, he would be exonerated.
Mwithiga had offered to give the hitman Ksh 600,000 after the job.
His plan hit a dead end when he met a policeman who was posing as a hitman at a hotel in Putnam, Motel 6, where they agreed to the hit job planning for the family member to ingest fentanyl and make it look like an overdose.
Leonard was arrested and presented to court. The court set the bond at Ksh.766.5 million (5 million dollars) and if he bonds out, he will be required to be on a 24/7 GPS lockdown, surrender his passport and be forced to stay in the state.
Before travelling to USA Dr Mwithiga held senior positions in Kenyan banks. His wife travelled to USA with children, he followed him after few years.They didn’t stay for long before cracks emerge.
