Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua is reportedly sailing in a sinking boat after his county failed to pay hard working contractors and suppliers Sh 2 billion.
According to Machakos County Contractors and Suppliers Association, the governor sweet talked them to build Machakos Level 5 Hospital, market sheds and Machakos People’s Park, and supply of water tanks and promised to pay them immediately they were through, claiming that money is not a problem.
They did a wonderful job, which the Governor is using to promote his name, and after completing they moved to Machakos County offices to demand their pay. However, they were told to wait until the cash is processed then come for the full pay.
It is now 2 years since they completed the work and they are yet to receive the money. The demotivated contractors gathered at Machakos showground, where they called a press conference to empty what has been ailing them. They complained that Governor Mutua is inaccessible and any time they visit his Office they’re told that ‘Mheshimiwa’ is having a special meeting elsewhere.
They claim that the delay in payment has led to the financial ruin of some their members, resulting in loss of property through auctioning, listing in the Credit Reference Bureau, illness and in some cases even stress and death
The contractors have given ‘kazi chap chap’ founder seven day to pay them or face dire consequences. They have vowed to use their numbers to teach him a lesson in 2017
