Women in Kenya have made huge strides over the past 10 years. The number of women professors and PhD holders has increased significantly but it is slightly lower than that of men.
Currently, there are a total of 67 women professors in Kenya, of these 60 % are from the Kikuyu community followed by the Luo community, Luhya, Kalenjin and Kisii respectively.
Kikuyu community has the most educated women followed by the Luo community.
In terms of PhD holders, there are between 2,300-3,500 women in this category. Again, Kikuyu tribe tops the list.
Generally, out of the total number of professors in Kenya, only 23 % are women-the rest are men.
