Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto was airlifted to Nairobi after he was beaten by the police in Silibwet, Bomet.
A football match between Bunge FC and Silibwet FC was going on at Silbwet Stadium when Rutto arrived with his youths, chanting Chama Cha Mashinani chorus. Moments later, his supporters started clashing with National Assembly Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso’s supporters. The fight continued for some time before police intervened.
The police were forced to use teargas and fire several live bullets to disperse the warring groups. They then arrested several youths.
Rutto, who is expected to defend his gubernatorial seat, started arguing with the police, prompting the security officers to work on him.He is now in Nairobi for treatment.
