What is the procedure of registering a football club in Kenya?
It’s the hope of every musician to nurture young talents. To do this, they must register a football club. The process of registering a football club is under the Ministry of Sports, Culture and the Arts.
Sports Registrar is the one responsible for receiving your registration documents. The registrar performs the following functions:
Established under the Sports Act 2013 to register and regulate Sports Organizations. Its functions are:
- Registration and regulation of sports organizations and multi-sport bodies.
- Licensing of professional sports and professional sports persons.
- Arbitration of registration disputes between sports organizations.
iii. Keep and maintain a register of registered sports organizations and such other particulars (relating to the registered organizers).
- Issue licenses for professional sports.
The first step to take when you want your club to be registered is to present the required documents to the ministry. Documents required include:
- Name of the club
- Names, addresses and designation of all officials. (Chairman, treasurer, Secretary)
- Physical address of the club. (plot number, road, town, county)
- Objectives of the club.
- ID, PIN, Passport photo of the officials.
Once you present the documents and the information required, you will be given a form to fill, which will remain with the ministry. Thereafter, you will be issued with a certificate of registration.

As a club owner, if your club manages to join the Kenya Premier League, you will benefit immensely from club sponsorship funds, gate collections and sale of players. Assuming a player is acquired by Manchester United and it chances that he is worth Ksh 1 billion. You will earn 40 % of this money. Besides earning from gate collections and sale of players, you will also earn when your club wins a trophy and in case you decide to sell the club.
