Every day I receive this message from my readers: how do I become a blogger? Sometimes I answer sometimes I ignore, based on your seriousness.
Initially, earlier this year this year to be specific, I wrote an article about blogging in Kenya, which attracted over 100,000 views. Most of the people who expressed their interest in this career are now bloggers, but a few failed due to lack of commitment.
Before you become a blogger, there are few things to MUST be aware of:
- Blogging is not a gold mine, unless your blog has tens of thousands of readers—say over 20,000 daily visitors—you won’t make any significant money.
- Blogging has its own risks, you will deal with court cases, threats, hosting challenges, competition etc.
- You will never succeed in blogging if you lack passion
- You will never use short cuts in blogging. This is where you deal with real humans, who will never tolerate your nonsense. If your content is good, the feedback will be good, if your content is rubbish, you won’t see them in your blog again.
- You should be more intelligent than your readers and ahead of them.
- Blogging needs patience-you won’t be rich overnight.
- Read more, learn from other bloggers
- Content is king
- You should always generate fresh content…this is like any other business.
Armed with these facts, you will start the journey.
The first step is to register your domain name. If you are from Kenya, your domain name should end with co.ke. I recommend .com domain name because the Kenyan government won’t interfere with that domain name.Bluehost is the best company for domain registration. Domain registration costs Ksh1, 500.(You can register through this link)
After you have registered your domain name, pay for hosting services. Here you have several options, you can host with Kenya Web Experts or Bluehost ,for the start. It will cost you Ksh 2,100p/a to host your website at Kenya Web Experts and approximately Ksh 15,000 to host one at Bluehost.I strongly recommend that you host at bluehost because it’s more stable and their plans are capable of handling heavy website traffic.
The next step is to build a website. This is the most important step. Since you aren’t an expert, you have to seek the services of one. Most experts you will approach would quote between Ksh15,000 to Ksh 30,000 but a fair price is Ksh15,000.
Since your aim is to become a blogger, it’s good you get an experienced blogger to do a website for you.Venas News has done more than 100 websites for serious bloggers. But we only accept requests from serious individuals-If your intention is to waste our time, don’t contact us. We charge Ksh 40,000 for domain registration, web hosting and website design. This amount will also cater for consultancy in regards to how you will start making money, how to grow your blog and the dos and don’ts of blogging. Once you pay the cash, your blog will be ready in a week, and it will be complete with everything a professional blog should have. Our contacts are (0722927138 or [email protected]). Sometime back, someone approached us, he wanted our services. We quoted Ksh40, 000.This person said this, “you want to con me”. We told him to go to hell. After we set him free, he went to another blogger, who is fortunately our customer. The blogger referred him to us. Embarrassed, the aspiring blogger came and apologized. He was willing to pay the money but we told him to go to hell. There are other cases we have dealt with, which is why we insist that we only deal with serious guys.
The next step is to know how to make money from your blog. Here you require an expert to help you with ideas. But I will give you a hint.
There are many ways of earning money as a blogger…you can earn through Google AdSense, AdSense alternatives like HilltopAd,affiliate marketing, sponsored content and direct advertising. Most bloggers start with AdSense, established ones are into affiliate marketing.
Once you pay the Ksh40, 000, we will do a blog for you, we host it and train you on how to make money.
If you are up to the challenge, take a risk today.
Before I conclude, I would like to reveal the amount of money you can make from blogging. If you own a popular site like Venas News, you will make not less than Ksh700,000 per month. If your daily traffic will be above Ksh10,000,you will make at least Ksh30,000 per month.Ghafla makes at least Ksh 1 million per monht,Tuko makes at least Ksh 3 million per month, Daily Post makes at least Ksh300,000 per month etc.
