Vadoma people, popularly known as Ostrich people because they have two toes ,are among the most prominent communities in Zimbabwe.
Vadoma live in the Kanyemba region in the north of Zimbabwe, especially in the Urungwe and Sipolilo districts around the basins of Mwazamutanda River, a tributary of the Zambezi River Valley. They are the only traditional hunter-gatherers indigenous to Zimbabwe and famous for the inherited ectrodactyly existing among some vaDoma families.None in the entire community has five toes- the middle three toes are absent and the two outer ones are turned in, resulting in the tribe being known as the “two-toed” or “ostrich-footed” tribe. This condition is called autosomal dominant which is as a result of a single mutation on chromosome number 7
The Ostrich people are best known for climbing trees, they can climb at a speed of lightning. They also actively participate in hunting, which is their main economic activity.
Each year, thousands of tourists visit Kanyemba region in a bid to see God’s beauty. Here are the photos of these amazing people
