More often than not, we have posted articles on small businesses you can do in Kenya to become rich, but we haven’t tackled the issue of side hutles.Today we shall feature side hustles that could propel you to the wealthy zone.
For a graduate, it’s pointless to direct all your energy into job searching; it has to reach a point where you change your strategy. The first step into finding your self best is identifying the most viable side hustles you can undertake. To ease your thinking, I would list some of easy-to-start businesses to engage in.
- Web Design
If you pursued web design, computer science, IT or any computer related courses, starting web design business won’t be a hard nut. To employ your skills, you need a social media page, a website and sponsor few articles on popular blogs. Within few days, you will start getting customers.
I personally know a couple of guys making in the north of Ksh100,000 per month for designing websites. They started as a side hustle and are now having a field day.
The nice thing about web design jobs is that you don’t need a physical office; what you need is an active social media platform and a clean, detailed website. You then need to do excellent job for your first few customers….and what will follow is referral after referral.
- Motorcycle business
I know you may wonder how you can run a motorcycle business yet you’re employed. With Ksh 120, 000, you will acquire a motorcycle. You will not necessarily need a rider- train yourself to do the job.
What to do is, after you have closed your day, hurry to your home, take your motorcycle to the nearby matatu stage and wait for clients. If you happen to work from 6pm to 9pm,you can manage Ksh500 per day.
- CV Writing
You won’t believe that there are people who live off CV writing side hustles. I have done this before, I even do it up to date and I can tell it’s a lucrative business. To do a single CV costs one Ksh1,000 to Ksh5,000.Assuming you have 10 clients per month, you will pull in upwards of Ksh 10,000.
What you need is a LinkedIn account, Facebook page,a website and of course networking skills. At first you may struggle to get clients but after you win a couple of them, others will come in droves.
- Blogging
Personally I am a blogger and I know to what extent this side hustle has helped me.Before 2011 I was struggling to foot bills-I literary lived from hand to mouth, but I can now afford a decent life. The beautiful thing about blogging is that one creates what we call passive income which to some extent become a recurring income. As the blog grows, the individual’s account fattens.
Currently, we have over 1,000 bloggers who have quit their jobs to concentrate on blogging. They started the venture out of curiosity and as a side hustle, they are now raking in hundreds of thousands each month in Kenya shillings.
Becoming a blogger is one of the easiest ventures you can engage in.You need less than Ksh20, 000-sometimes even nil capital. For those I have advised before, they started by registering domain names at Bluehost(Click here to register),that later contacted us for web design services and hosting. All these cost them less than Ksh20, 000
- Responsible betting
I know most of you would discourage you from betting, but if you do it responsibly, you can get something to keep you going. Sites like 1XBET have players who make up to Ksh50,000 per month.
Today, someone can convince you that betting is serious vice which can make you a pauper, but looking at the likes of Abisai and Ogada you feel encouraged. I am one of those guys who resist negativity and I do that with impunity. As a result, I have managed to earn over Ksh200, 000 more than once. I have never stopped placing a bet on the jackpot.
- Selling women clothes and handbags
If you’re employed somewhere and you feel like you can multitask between work and side hustles, start selling women clothes and handbags in your office.
Many known women started venturing into handbag business, now they own successful boutiques.
It’s better to get Ksh 3,000 per month than nothing!
- Freelancing
Freelancing is a close cousin of blogging. In Kenya, you can freelance as a guest blogger or engage your energy on online writing. The lighter tasks, however, entails working as a guest blogger.
If you’re a fresh graduate and you can write interesting articles, contact leading blogs and request to be a guest blogger. Initially you may not earn cash but after you prove your worthness, the blogs will start paying you.
- Data Analysis
Another way to make a living out of side hustling is to do data analysis. At the moment there are countless masters and PhD students stranded with their projects. If you can bridge the gap, earning money won’t be a difficult task.
- Offering transport to workmates
If you have a personal car and you wish to make a living out of it, you can choose to offer paid transport to your workmates. What you do is, arrange to pick and drop your workmates at a cost. Assuming you live with 4 of them in the same locality and each gives you Ksh 100 per day, you will make at least Ksh8,000 per month. This way you won’t struggle to fuel your car.
- Babysitting
In Nairobi I know several women who have quit their jobs to concentrate on babysitting. This is a nice task especially if you live in areas where toddlers are many. What you need is a room where to host the babies. Then employ someone to help you with some tasks. Assuming you have 10 babies per day and each mother pays you Ksh200,you will end up making in excess of Ksh 60,000 per month…cool!
- Housecleaning
What is killing our graduates is ego. Just because someone possess undergraduate degree, doing housecleaning for someone is a big NO for him, which is nonsense! If you drop your pride and seek housecleaning jobs for your friends, relatives and neighbours, you will be shocked by the amount of money you can make in a weekend.
- Photography
Another side hustle most of our youths forget to do is photography. Each weekend I find several people requesting for photography services yet there are few doing the job.
As a graduate, it’s good you plan on how to cover weddings, funerals, birthday parties and other celebrations. This will definitely be a perfect side hustle for anyone as it can earn you up to Ksh100,000 per event.
