There are many ways of paying HELB Loan but one of the common methods is to use Safaricom Paybill Number which is 200800.
Upon completion of college, a graduate is given a grace period of not more than a year to start repaying their loan.In case one has not secured employment, they should at least inform HELB about their status, but the body requires that the beneficiaries submit even a small amount to show that they are committed to repaying the loan.Of course if one is employed, it’s the employer’s responsibility to submit the cash to HELB.
Assuming that you aren’t employed and that you have decided to pay using MPESA so as to avoid being listed by CRB,this is the procedure to follow:
- Go to M-PESA on your phone
- Select Pay Bill option
- Enter Business no. 200800
- Enter Account no: YOUR ID NUMBER
- Enter the Amount you want to deposit
- Enter your M-PESA PIN and Send
- You will receive a confirmation SMS from M-PESA
Your account will automatically be updated with the amount of your deposit
Remember that if you fail to pay the loan each month,HELB will slap you with Ksh5,000 monthly penalty .It’s advisable that you pay even if it’s Ksh200 each month so as to avoid problems in future.
A common question among graduates is: “I am not employed, where does HELB expect me to get money to pay them?” HELB doesn’t care where you get the money from, it’s upon you to visit HELB offices and explain to them your predicament. They will then allow you to pay even Ksh50 per month so as to avoid being penalized.
