Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UNHABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing Administrative, conference, Security and information services (www.unon.org).
The UNON internship is for 6 months.
The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35-40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background; the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period.
Under the supervision of the Chief, Talent Management Centre and delegated Human Resources Assistants, the intern will:
-Assist in conducting Human Resource data analytics.
-Assisting in the development of the section dashboards.
-Assist in examining Human Resource process workflows to propose improvement and changes.
-Compile statistics in recruitment.
-Assist in the development of an online data dissemination platform.
-Assist in research and development of statistical learning models for data analysis.
-Assist in collecting data from multiple resources to review, analyze, compile and store information as well as create standard statistical and other reports.
-Assist in processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis.
-Collaborate with other IT department to understand section needs and devise possible.
-Assist with the transfer of electronic and paper files to the document management systems.
-Assist in presenting reports using data visualization techniques and communicate results and ideas to key decision makers.
-Assist joint development efforts through appropriate database use and project design.
-Assist in enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems.
-Assist in processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis.
-Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
-Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
-Assist in analyzing large amounts of information to discover trends and pattern for reporting purposes.

Education
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Preferred Area of Studies:
Bachelor or master degree in Economics and Statistics, Information Technology or related area.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable.
