MPESA till number charges merchants and not the sender. Safaricom charges 1% of the value of the transaction, which means if you send Ksh1,000, the recipient will be charged Ksh 10
Below is a statement from Safaricom about the charges:
“A fee of 1% of the value of the transaction will be charged to the merchant for every transaction. The charged value will be recovered by Safaricom when the Merchant moved his collections from the Till”
How to Send Money through a Till Number
- Go to MPESA
- Select Lipa Na MPESA
- Select Buy Goods and Services
- Enter Till Number (i.e 705909)
- Enter amount (i.e Kh1000)
- Enter MPESA pin and send
Safaricom will send a reply indicating that the money has been received.
