Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) are ranked below CS and permanent secretaries. They pocket a monthly salary of Ksh 780,000 per month plus other allowances. Currently there are 51 CAS appointed by President Ruto in Kenya. Below are the roles& responsibilities of CAS and the salaries they earn per month:
To provide information and answers to queries from both the public and other stakeholders.
To provide liaison with the National Assembly and Senate. This involves ensuring that communication channels are open between the ministry and these important government bodies, and that any issues or concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
They are also responsible for providing liaison with county governments on matters of concurrent mandate.
Providing inter-ministerial/sectoral coordination. This involves working closely with other government ministries and agencies to ensure that policies and programs are aligned and that there is no duplication of efforts.
Represent the Cabinet Secretary at any meeting as instructed by them. Effectively communicate the views and positions of the ministry at various forums and events.
Responding to issues/ questions touching on the portfolio assigned to the office
Perform any other roles assigned to them by the ministry
Salary of CAS in Kenya
CAS earn a monthly salary of Ksh780,000 per month, they also get Ksh 8 million car grant and a mortgage of Ksh 35 million.
This is a good position for any Kenyan because it involves a lot of travelling. The CAS can get a per diem of more than Ksh200, 000 per month. They can also start their own companies and easily win tenders because they are close to those awarding tenders.
