Even as DP Kithure Kindiki and President Ruto pose for photos to show that everything is good, the opposite is true. Kindiki is currently walking on murky waters. His replacement is imminent.
Sources close to Ruto intimate that there is a feeling that Kindiki has lost the ground completely. He was picked to succeed Gachagua because of the Mount Kenya votes. Ruto thought that Kindiki would inherit Gachagua’s base. However,based on the voting pattern in Ol Kalou,Mount Kenya has left Ruto. Now Ruto has to look for support elsewhere. He is likely to pick Kalonzo or Wycliffe Oparanya as his running mate.
Already, Kalonzo is in talks with Ruto and he is likely to deputize the president in 2027. Kalonzo has been in the opposition for 15 years,he cannot afford to be in the opposition again. In Western Kenya,already Oparanya,Mudavadi and Wetangula are supporting Ruto—there is no need of Ruto nominating any of them for the running mate position. The only two people remaining are Sifuna and Kalonzo. Ruto will pick any of the two as his running mate. Kindiki will be promised interior ministry,a position he held before becoming the DP.
