Kenya’s Vivian Cheruiyot won women’s 10,000m world title on Monday in Beijing, producing a commanding last-lap surge for victory just a year after starting a family.
The athlete won the title in 31 minutes, 41.41 seconds in Beijing, she was closely followed by Gelete Burka of Ethiopia who claimed silver in 31:41.77, while American Emily Infeld took bronze (31:43.49).
This was the first Gold for Kenya in the competition after previous events proved tough for the Kenyan Athletes.
In another race, veteran 3000 steeplechase champion Ezekiel Kemboi led other two Kenyans in claiming 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions.
The 33-year-old, a two-time Olympic champion (2004 and 2012) won gold in 8min 11.28sec, holding off Kenyan team-mate Conseslus Kipruto in the final stretch
