The highly anticipated recruitment of soldiers to Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) started on Monday in all Kenyan counties.

The exercise which will be conducted at every county is expected to attract over 100,000 participants drawn from respective counties.

Advertisements for the positions were conducted in August 2015 where applicants were required to apply if they meet minimum requirements outlined in the adverts.

Previous recruitment exercises were marred by allegations of corruption involving some Army Officers and applicants. However, the sensitive institution has warned applicants against paying bribes to be recruited into the armed forces. The body, through various media adverts, stated that action will be taken against anyone found committing the offense.

Bribery and corruption is a thorny issue in the security sector especially during recruitment exercise. Last year, more than 10,000 Kenyans who had secured places in the police force were recalled after it emerged that most of them had paid bribes to recruiting officers. The exercise was later repeated where fresh Police trainees were recruited.
