Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto has formed a new party dubbed Mashinani Development Party of Kenya, ending speculations over his political stand.
Rutto’s latest move piles pressure on Deputy President William Ruto to reorganize his house before it’s too late.
Already, KANU, led by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, have indicated they won’t join the Jubilee Party. Which is a blow to the DP considering the Jubilee administration will rely heavily on Rift Valley bloc to win the 2017 general elections.
Isaac Rutto looks more determined to topple the DP as the Rift Valley community leader but the timing is wrong. From my observation, the Bomet Governor may be thrown into political oblivion in the next general election.
William Ruto is the second most powerful man in Kenya and his position as the DP will play a big role in determining who will be the next leader in respective counties in Rift Valley. Apart from Gideon Moi, who Uhuru Kenyatta won’t dare raise a voice against; no any other politician in Rift Valley could dare compete with Ruto.
It doesn’t matter how many political blunders the DP has done since he assumed his current position, but as long as he has the backing of the entire Rift Valley, Isaac Rutto is just wasting his time.
We believe Bomet Governor’s intention of forming a political party is to merge with CORD so that he would have more bargaining power in the CORD coalition in case it forms the next government. But chances of him winning sizeable votes for CORD are slim. He may gather some few hundred votes from South Rift but not enough to make someone a President.
