Uganda may not be the most technologically advanced, but it’s latest move puts it on the world map as one of the few manufacturers of solar buses.

Kiira Motors’ Kayoola prototype electric bus was unveiled this week and shown off at a stadium in Uganda’s capital, Kampala.

The bus has one of the batteries which can be charged by solar panels on the roof to increase the vehicle’s 80km (50 mile) range.

The 35-seater bus is expected to cost up to $58,000 (£40,000), and already the company has started receiving orders from both locally and internationally.

Kiira motors started as a project at Makerere University and later grew to become one of the biggest manufacturers of vehicles in Uganda.
