Ms Josephine Kabura Irungu is the lady who has revealed shocking details of how former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru was involved in stealing Sh 791 NYS money.
According to Kabura, the former CS ordered her to transfer Sh 80 million which was hidden in Waiguru’s office and later shared the loot.
In a sworn 112-point affidavit, Kabura claims Waiguru was aware her offices could be invaded by detectives. The former CS ordered her to hurriedly transfer the cash to undisclosed location in Runda.
“CS Waiguru instructed that I hand to one Mr Mugwanja Sh80, 000,000 I had earlier disclosed to Waiguru I had kept in the two safes,”said Irungu
In the affidavit, Irungu, a hairdresser, says she met Waiguru while working at Kenya Data Networks between April and May 2012 and they became friends and great acquaintances. Thereafter, at Waiguru’s request, she took her CV personally to her Evergreen House number 29 in Runda where Waiguru introduced her to her family.
“She informed me that she could link me with influential and resourceful contractors at the Finance ministry, including a Mr Karani Nyamu who, she said, she had introduced (her close friend and business associate). She told me she had assisted in securing major contracts through his companies Verve K.O and Zinga Technologies, which do ICT consulting and major ICT project implementation,”said Irungu
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is yet to respond to the whole story. The body had cleared Waiguru of any involvement in corruption at the NYS, but failed to clear former NYS boss Nelson Githinji.
