The Kenya Bureau of standards has suspended a total of 36 companies from supplying bottled water in Kenya.
The decision came after the body realized that over 60 % of bottled water being sold in Nairobi ad other major towns have not met the minimum standards required, therefore posing serious health problems consumers.
Managing director Charles Ongwae said plans are at an advanced stage to introduce a local secured standardization mark, which will be used for accredited companies.
Currently over 70 % of residents in urban areas consume bottled water. Due to scarcity of the precious commodity, several companies have emerged, most of them selling counterfeit water.
Below is a list of such companies, which have been suspended.
