Communicable Diseases

This is a 16 module course which deals with the diagnosis, management, prevention and control of common communicable on tropical diseases. Epidemiology, Infection prevention and control; Travel Medicine; Immunization; Contact Diseases, STDs, HIV/AIDS, Vector Borne Diseases; Malaria, Emerging and Re-emerging Diseases; Diseases of Faeco-oral Contamination, Helminthiasis, Acute Respiratory Infections; Tuberculosis and Leprosy; and Diseases of Contact with Animals.

Integrated HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care and Management (Revised)

This course is comprised of 12 modules with 50 units. The objective of this course is to develop your knowledge, skills and attitudes with respect to provision of comprehensive care to people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and their families. Topics include: Fundamentals of HIV and AIDS; Prevention of HIV infection and Post Exposure; HIV Counselling and Testing; Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV; HIV Treatment and Monitoring; Management of patients with HIV related diseases; Nutrition in the Context of HIV and AIDS; Management of HIV in Special Populations; Community & Home Based Care and Other Support; Behaviour Change Communication (BCC); Monitoring and Evaluation; HIV Commodity Security.

Non Communicable Diseases

The course has 17-modules covering non-communicable diseases in adults. Contents for the course includes: Diseases of the Cardiovascular System; Diseases of the Lungs; Diseases of the Urinary System; Diseases of the Joints & Connective tissues; Diseases of the Nervous System; Diseases of the Blood & Reticuloendothelial System; Diseases of the Nose, Throat and Larynx; Diseases of the Endocrine Glands; Diseases of Nutrition; Poisoning; Common Skin Diseases in the Tropics; Heat Illness; Hypothermia; Allergic Conditions. And Cancer and Its Management

Malaria

This is a 12 module course which addresses the management, prevention and control of malaria. Course content: About Malaria; Clinical Assessment of Malaria; Severe and complicated Malaria; Treatment of Malaria; Treatment defaults in Malaria; Referral in Severe and Complicated Malaria; Malaria in Pregnancy; Prevention and Control of Malaria; Community Based Management of fever and Malaria in children; HIV/AIDS and Malaria; Counselling and Health Education on Malaria; Malaria Surveillance.

Nutrition

This aim of this course is to provide health workers with knowledge, skills and attitudes on how to promote good nutrition especially breastfeeding in the community; manage and prevent malnutrition in the community. It has 11 modules. Course content: Food Nutrients; Maternal nutrition during pregnancy and lactation; The relationship between nutrition, infection and disease; Protein-Energy-Malnutrition; Breastfeeding Part I; Breastfeeding Part II; Complimentary feeding; Growth Monitoring Promotion; Nutrition counselling; Nutrition and HIV.

Medicine Management (New):

The main objectives of the course are to prepare health managers who have competencies in medicines management in health facilities at different levels. The course has 6 Modules 21 units and covers the following: Policies and Medicine Control; Selection of Medicines; Procurement and Medicine Quality Assurance; Distribution of Medicines; Rational Use of Medicine; Organization and Management of Drug Supply; Drugs and Substance Abuse

Drug and Substance Abuse (New):

This course is designed for health workers who are involved in curative and rehabilitative services at all levels of health care. These include, but not limited to, medical officers, clinical officers, pharmacists and pharmaceutical technologists, occupational therapists and nurses. In addition, health managers concerned with policy formulation and regulation are encouraged to participate.

This course has 5 modules with 16 units whose aim is to provide health workers with the necessary competencies in Medicine use. The course content includes: Exposure Situation in Drug and Substance Abuse; Drug and Substance Abuse in Special Populations; Categories of Drugs and Substances of Abuse; Interventions for Mitigation /Eradication of the Use of Drugs; Policy Guidelines and Regulations Relating to Drug and Substance Abuse

Maternal & Neonatal Health (New)

This is a 5 module course with 16 units covering the following areas: The Normal neonate; Neonatal Resuscitation; Birth Injuries; Management of High Risk Neonate; Congenital Abnormalities

Family Planning:

This is a 13 Module course covering: Introduction to Population and Family Planning ; Anatomy and Physiology of both Female & Male reproductive system; Contraceptive methods including Natural Family Planning methods; Management of integrated MCH/FP; community mobilization for MCH/FP; Counseling of FP; FP Client Management; STD and HIV/AIDS in relation to FP; monitoring and Evaluation of FP services. This course teaches how to insert a coil, for example and you can be given a practical demonstration if you request.

Obstetrics and Gynecology:

This is a 10 module course which looks at the female Reproductive system and specifically discusses issues related to pregnancy and delivery and associated medical problems. Course content: Anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive system; Introduction to Obstetrics; Bleeding and Medical conditions in pregnancy; Normal Labour and puerperium; Abnormal pregnancy and presentation; Abnormal Labour; Operative Obstetrics and abnormal pueperium; Diseases of the female Genital track and Family Planning.

 

How much does it cost?

The course fees are as follows:

Application Fees: Kshs 500 (Kenyan citizens) and US$10 for non-Kenyans. (regardless of your preferred delivery option)

Delivery Option I: Printed course material delivered to you via Post office –

Ksh1,900 per module for health workers in Kenya (This option is only within Kenya)

Delivery Option II: A link sent to you via email from where you can download and print the course material.

Ksh 1,250 per module for health workers in Kenya
US$ 450 per course for health workers outside Kenya.

For courses with less than 10 units, please note that the minimum fees per course is Kshs 10,000 for health workers in Kenya.
