Many aspiring bloggers have this question on their lips, “how much can I make from a blog?” Established bloggers would give varying opinions depending on their personal experiences, few will exaggerate figures so as to attract more readers.
It’s hard to extract income figures from someone’s blog, but based on my personal experience and information I have sourced from my close associates, here is the amount you can make from a blog.
Bloggers use different monetization techniques, majority are in Google AdSense while a few are into affiliate marketing. While it’s the opinion of those in the AdSense ecosystem that it’s easier to make money from the platform than it is from affiliate marketing, experts would tell that Affiliate marketing is more lucrative.
If you want to join Google AdSense, you will make the following amount from your blog
Daily Unique Visitors | Money($) Per Month |
1,000 | 80-200 |
3,000 | 100-300 |
5000 | 150-400 |
10,000 | 250-1000 |
15,000 | 400-2000 |
20,000 | 500-3,000 |
30,000 | 750-4,000 |
Most bloggers receive daily unique visitors in the neighbourhood of 5, 000, which is why we didn’t bother to give figures above 30,000 unique visitors.
The earnings from AdSense depend on the blog niche, Ad placement, where you draw your readers from and the quality of your content. If you draw your readers from USA, UK, Germany, Canada, and Australia, you will make handsome money but if your readers are from India and developing countries, you will struggle to make meaningful amount from your blog.
When it comes to Ad placement, you will be forced to purchase a WordPress Theme that’s deemed best for AdSense. Most bloggers recommend Newspaper Theme, which is purchased from here (Newspaper theme link). This theme will allow you to place AdSense in strategy locations within your blog, thus increasing your earnings by over 300%.
Another factor that would greatly determine your AdSense income is, where your traffic comes from. If your traffic comes from social media, you will earn less but if it’s from search engines you will smile all the way to the bank.
The last determinant is your blog niche; if your blog content is about real estate, insurance, banking products, health, loans, rehab, and education you will be happy, but if yours is about politics and relations, you will earn the least from AdSense.
Affiliate marketing
Affiliate marketing is hard for less talented bloggers. This area requires individuals with special skills to market products. In affiliate marketing, clicks don’t matter, what matter most is conversions. As a blogger, what is required of you is to convince your readers that the product you are talking about is the best. If they like your explanation, they will buy.
The good thing about affiliate marketing is that it doesn’t rely much on traffic but the trust your readers develop in you.
In affiliate marketing, you earn commissions, which are paid in terms of percentages. What might surprise you is that in this area you can review a product and once one of your readers purchases that product you make a cool $7,500.
In this area, if you are reviewing a product and you get 1000 readers, chances are than 2-5 will buy that product. In most cases, commission ranges between 2% and 200%.Assuming you have 1000 readers per day and each day you sell as single product you are reviewing, you will make more than twice the amount those in AdSense will make.
Generally, affiliate marketing is more lucrative that Google AdSense.
Direct advertising
You can also earn money from direct advertising, but this depends on the type of content in your blog. If your blog get noticed by advertisers you will be contacted for advertisements.
Few bloggers reach this level.
Selling personal products and services
Some bloggers also opt to sell personal products and services. This route is the best for any blogger and it pays you 100% of your efforts. The money you make is not shared with anyone…it’s yours.
