A total of 200 smartphones belonging to Apple’s iPhone brand were stolen from Deputy President William Ruto’s office.

The smartphones, which were meant for Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) delegates, were stolen from the heart of Ruto’s building at Harambee Annexes. This act brought embarrassment for the nation as many people wondered how on earth such act could happen in such office where ordinary citizens are not allowed access.

Winfred Mogikinya is one of the people who stole the smartphones that were estimated to be worth Ksh 30 million. This is how they stole the phones, according to reliable sources.

Winfred, alongside other suspects, presented a fake Local Purchase Order (LPO) from the office of the deputy president and the foreign affairs ministries to Capital Airtime Company. They pretended to be in business with the government. They were then supplied with a total of 200 iPhone smartphones.

The suspects disappeared with the phones, prompting the delegates at the TICAD meeting to walk empty handed.

Until today a total of 17 smartphones have been recovered from the suspects.
