Former Finance Minister, David Mwiraria is dead.
Mwiraria died at Karen Hospital, Nairobi this morning after a long battle with cancer.
The economist was born on 3 September, 1938.He served as Minister for Environment and Natural Resources previously Finance Minister of Kenya until December 2007 when Kenya held its General Elections.
He later contested for North Imenti parliamentary seat on PNU ticket but lost to Silas Muriuki, who was running on a Mazingira Green Party of Kenya ticket.
Mwiraria hold a masters in Statistics from Makerere University, and he was one of the longest serving civil servants in the country. He had a long and distinguished career in Kenya’s civil service, serving in various senior positions hence his recently appearing as a witness before Kenya’s Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission as a witness to testify on the Government of Kenya’s role in the Wagalla massacre. Following allegations that he had been involved in the Anglo Leasing Scandal, he decided to resign as Finance Minister on 1 February 2006
The late has been suffering from cancer until his demise.
