Five people were killed on Wednesday night when a Githurai bound Matatu lost control and plunged into innocent pedestrians.
The matatu registered under Manchester Sacco was heading Thika from Nairobi CBD when it hit several pedestrians killing three on the spot while two others died when they were being rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment.
When the driver noticed the damage he had done, he went into hiding and police are looking for him.
Police Spokesman Charles Owino confirmed the incident and urged drivers to be extra cautious especially when driving at night. He added that a major crackdown will be done to impound all unroadworthy public service vehicles.
