Match fixing for football matches involve players, managers and betting companies. Not all of them participate in fixing. Normally, fixing targets defenders, goalkeeper and strikers. The markets which are targeted include: Half time result, correct score and full-time score. They also target the first team to score and draw.
The player or manager who is involved is approached by interested club, betting site or institution that’s planning for match fixing. There is a specific agent who negotiates. The goalkeeper is told to concede goals at specific time. He will be paid a portion of the agreed amount before the game starts then the balance is paid after the results are delivered.
The strikers will be instructed not to score goals to allow their team draw or lose. This way, betting sites and the opponents will benefit. The players involved in fixing the match will also benefit.
Sometimes players place bets where they bet against their team. When that happens, they play to lose or not to score more than their opponents. They then win their bets.
Betting companies involved in the match fixing will also check the bet slips of the gamblers. If the bets don’t favour them, they will approach players from specific club to fix the match. Then gamblers will lose.
When match fixing happens, it’s difficult for fans to know, it’s difficult for some players to know, especially midfielders. The vice might happen for years without being noticed.
