Scammers are all over and nowadays  they are using international calls to steal your money from MPESA and from friends.

Few days ago, I received a call from a number code + 370 from Lithuania. First, I thought that it was a call from my overseas publisher whom I had submitted my manuscript to. As I was about to pick the phone, it disconnected. I decided to call back but first I waited whether the number could call back. It didn’t instead, I received another one Slovakia code + 421. This time around, I thought it was a soccer fans social media group I had joined from Europe who was joking with me. When I received a missed call from Somalia code +252, I decided to do a bit of research concerning the missed calls. This is when I discovered that the international missed call scam has hit our country Kenya and elsewhere. The scam known by Japanese name ‘wangiri’ have got international fraudsters who purchase the numbers from dark websites in the Internet. They then join hands with unscrupulous service providers to milk the phone users dry. Once you call back, redirected to premium numbers that drain lines of credit.
The longer the caller stays on the line, the more money the swindlers make. The conundrum of the whole saga is how the con artists are able to get the victims phone numbers. People are warned not to call back to the fraudsters when you see the missed call. Let us share to help people.
