If you fail to reverse/accept the prompt to reverse an M-PESA message containing money erroneously sent to your number, keep in mind that you risk a 2-year jail term, a Ksh 200,000 fine, or both. This is according to provisions of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act Section 35.
In most cases, people who get money by mistake rush to the nearest MPESA agent to withdraw.in case you do that in future and the owner reports you to the police, you’ll pay the fine or get jailed. It’s always good to return the money in order to avoid trouble.
