  • What is a perfect Blog Post

What is a perfect Blog Post

One of our readers asked us this question:

“I have started a blog, it’s now 3 months old. I got approved by AdSense but I have not managed to earn my first $70. All I want is to know how a perfect blog post looks like for it to attract traffic”

    Answer

Based on my experience of blogging, you cannot exactly tell how a perfect blog post looks like. But there are key details a blog post should have in order to rank high on Google.

When writing a blog post, make sure that the content answers the title of the post exhaustively and what the reader was looking for. Nowadays, people want straight answer, they don’t have patience to read all the paragraphs looking for the answer.

Few years ago, long posts, those with at least 2,000 words ranked higher than the short ones. That is not the case today. Even a blog post with 100 words will rank at position 1 of Google as long as it answers specific question by a reader.

Another thing is that a perfect blog should not be written by AI. Blog posts which are 100% AI are rarely indexed.

The blog post should also answer more questions, which are deep and from an expert. Which means that for one to write a perfect blog post, he should be an expert in that area. Write as if you deeply understand the topic—not like you have read somewhere.

A perfect blog post should also contain opinions from different people. Open the comments section so that your readers can share their opinion. Alternatively, create a forum like Reddit where different opinions can be shared. Opinion from one person doesn’t qualify a blog post to be a perfect one.

A perfect blog post should contain a video, images and expressions of other experts. If possible, conduct your own research to determine what other experts are saying, then include those opinions in your post.

A perfect blog post should alight with the content of the authority site. If the site is about web hosting, the blog post should be about web hosting. Search engines will rank the post high on their pages.

  • Is blogging dead in 2025?

    Is blogging dead in 2025?

There are millions of people asking whether blogging will still be a viable venture in 2025. Many are wondering whether it’s dead or alive. The truth of the matter is, blogging is dead. Google killed blogging in 2024 when they changed their algorithm to favour authority sites and forums. Their AI overviews also buried blogging career, completely. All we are doing now is mourning and soon we will move on.

There are several reasons why you should not start a blog in 2025:

    AI overviews

AI overviews summarize results from blogs such that when a visitor goes through the overviews, they don’t have to visit any of the websites to get the information—everything is summarized by the overviews. Websites will get zero traffic as Google steals 100% of traffic from them.

Google wants to keep visitors on their platform than directing them to blogs.

    Competition from other platforms

There was a time blogs were dominating search results, it’s not the case today. I believe you have noticed that when searching for an item on Google, you will get answers from LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. This is indeed bad news to blogs. Your blog posts for most of the keywords won’t be on the front page of Google because of the stiff competition from social media and YouTube.

    Visitors prefer videos over text

It’s now clear that visitors prefer video over text. When they search for content on Google, they are more likely to watch a video than read a blog post. This is the reason Google has started ranking YouTube videos higher than blog articles.

    Biasness towards authority sites

The May and August Google Algorithms favoured authority sites. No matter how hard you work as a blogger, your content cannot be ranked higher than content from authority sites. It’s therefore useless to start a blog in 2025.

    Forums

Forums like Quora, Medium and Reddit are dominating the search results. If you write an article similar to content on those forums, your content won’t even be indexed.

Google clearly indicated that people want to read first hand experiences from other readers, which is why the company is focused more on forums.

    Indexing

It seems Google stopped indexing all the content available in blog posts. I remember 10 years ago, I could post an article on my blog and it’s indexed within seconds Nowadays, it takes up to a month for an article to appear on Google. Worse still, most blogs are blacklisted by Google such that no matter the quality of your posts, they won’t be indexed. It’s worrying that ever since May 2024 there are articles not indexed as of today.

    Low income

AdSense is not paying as well as they used to pay a couple of years ago. The CPC used to be high but today it’s too low. To make $1000 you need millions of views to your blog.

Google want to keep all visitors on their platforms

Google doesn’t want to send traffic to independent blogs. Since they own YouTube, they want to keep visitors to Google on YouTube. Even if your blog has the best content, it won’t rank higher than similar content on YouTube.

You will also notice that when you visit Google, their first page is dominated by sponsored items which match your keywords. Since you have already gotten what you wanted on Google, why visit a blog?!

How to survive as a blogger in 2025

To survive as a blogger in 2025, these are the things to do:

    Sell an item

Instead of creating content for Google to earn from AdSense, start selling items. When Google discovers that you are a business, they will start ranking your articles higher on their platforms.

    Start a forum

Start a forum like Reddit where people contribute and give opinion about specific topics. Your forum will rank highly on Google.

    Create a news site

News sites ae currently performing well, they were not affected much. Create a blog for providing latest news. You will make a lot of money from it.

Don’t rely on Google for traffic

Your main source of traffic should not be Google. Have a presence on social media where you share your content.

Be an expert in whatever you do

Google nowadays prefer bloggers who are expert in their area. If you are a university lecturer, start educational bog, if you are a medical doctor, start a blog about health, if you are a lawyer, start a blog about law. Don’t try to do everything at the same time—you will confuse Google.

This means that you should start a niche blog where you post content as an expert in that topic.

    Start a YouTube channel

Don’t waste your time creating a blog, just start a YouTube channel. This way,you are assured of your future.

  • Future of Kenyan bloggers, publishers and content creators after AI

Future of Kenyan bloggers, publishers and content creators after AI

What is the future of Kenyan bloggers? This is a dominant question among publishers who are worried that AI will replace them. Well, this year we witnessed Google roll out the March 2024 algorithm then the AI overview. Among the products launched by AI is the AI overview which summarizes information and displays it above any other search result on Google’s front page. For bloggers with bigger eyes, it’s easy to interpret what the AI overview means and make necessary content adjustments. It spells doom on publishers.

Before the AI overview, there was the much talked about algorithm which shockingly killed over 90% of Kenyan blogs. It promoted sites with high domain authority while relegating independent publishers and new blogs. Interestingly, forum sites like Quora, Medium and Reddit found their way to the top of SERP. Right now, Reddit content is outranking any other site with similar content in Kenya.

I have talked to a number of bloggers, most of them are worried about their future. A close friend runs a blog which was getting600,000-3 million views per month with over 80% of traffic coming from Google. He lost 90% of traffic to less than 200,000 views per month after the algorithm was rolled out. His revenue from AdSense dropped from Ksh 500,000 to Ksh 30,000 per month…and you tell me this person cannot be depressed!!!!

If you’re clever enough, you’d have noticed that a number of bloggers aren’t posting content consistently as they used to—due to the shock they got a couple of months ago when their content stopped ranking as a result of the AI overview and the algorithm.

Google came up with an excuse that it’s reducing spam sites from their online search engine, over 45% of the sites in the online ecosystem were affected. As a result, bloggers like Cyprian Nyakundi lost their sites. Nyakundi had to start a new blog after his old bog was deindexed—it completely disappeared from Google such that when you search for it,you won’t find it anywhere.Nyakundi was creating content with AI.

The online space is now for news sites, blogs with high domain authority, forums and ecommerce blogs. The small and independent publishers don’t have any stake in regard to organic traffic. It’s even worse that when they post articles on their blogs, they aren’t indexed on Google.

At the moment, Google’s eyes are on AI,they don’t care about the plight of bloggers. With all this, what does the future look like in the eyes of bloggers?!!

Now, if you own a site and you were impacted negatively the algorithm, listen to me carefully. This is not the time to create information content, it will be useless because Google has already summarized it and presented in a better way. Those bloggers who were listing academic courses, who were ranking items, who were writing about jobs, business and other things that AI can do easily should now be more creative. If there’s something you can easily find online and write about, don’t waste your time writing about it.I am particularly concerned about bloggers without original content, the ones who visited other sites, got information and posted it on their sites—they didn’t want to do any research. Right now, the internet wants publishers who can come up with information which does not exist online.

Since Google favours forums ,e-commerce sites and news sites, that is the direction you should follow. News sites always have something new to report about, forums like Quora raise questions where members come up with divergent opinion and ideas. Those forums are like Facebook posts where followers share ideas and opinions. Google have a soft spot on the forums.

What I am seeing is that in future, the only bloggers who will survive are those with unique ideas or those running forums and news sites. We currently have over 2000 bloggers in Kenya. By 2027 the number will reduce significantly to less than 100.We will remain with news sites run by big media houses and a few bloggers who have been in the industry for more than 5 years.

It’s even pointless to create a blog in Kenya at the moment because you won’t rank anywhere. To think that you will compete with sites like Tuko News, Standard Media and Citizen TV is a pipe dream.

The worst part about the current blogging environment is that the cost of web hosting is extremely high yet income is low. Ideally, no blogger will persevere in an environment where they work very hard and only pay for web hosting.

The income for independent bloggers will shrink to worrying levels. It won’t be enough to sustain anyone. Unless bloggers find a way to sell items on their blog. Their dreams of surviving in this industry are now shuttered. Blogging is dead!

So far,I don’ t have any complaint about the hosting company”

  • 10 Things bloggers should do in 2024 to remain relevant

10 Things bloggers should do in 2024 to remain relevant

We have seen Google deindexing some sites and punishing others by reducing their visibility. More than 50% of bloggers have quit the profession. However, there are important things to do in order to remain relevant.

    Create a forum blog

Write testimonies and real life stories

    Run a YouTube channel

Avoid affiliate links on your blog posts

Post few but high quality content

Avoid using AI to post content

Create an authority blog like Raddit

Share your content on social media

    Create original content

    Create a news site

    Create a forum blog

Right now, forum content is ranking higher than content from independent bloggers. This is because content from forums provide real human experience. Create a forum and let people contribute to your content by revealing their real life experience.

    Write testimonial stories

When you post about testimonies and real life stories, Google will love your content and push your site to the top of the search results.

    Run a YouTube channel

YouTube will help boost your income. As you blog, share the same experience on YouTube. Even if your blog won’t generate decent income, you will still make money from YouTube

Post few but high quality articles

Nowadays Google does not have enough budget to crawl all the content posted online. Instead of posting 1000 blog posts per day, create only 1 post which is of high quality and make money.

    Avoid creating content with AI

Most of the sites which were deindexed created content using AI. This is a huge mistake. Avoid creating content with AI and your blog will grow massively.

Create authority blog like Raddit or Quora

If your site has domain authority of more than 70%, Google will mark its content as good.

If you’re keen, you’ll notice that Raddit, Medium and Quora are always top of search engine index. It’s because their domain authority is high.

    Share content on social media

Social media will be the key pillar of blogs. In future, you won’t be relying on Google for traffic. The game changer will be social media traffic.

  • Blogging in Kenya has become a useless profession—it cannot make you rich

Blogging in Kenya has become a useless profession—it cannot make you rich

Blogging in Kenya is one of the worst professions at the moment. If you want to become rich and progress in life, don’t become a blogger. Blogging was profitable between 2007 and 2022 when Google allowed bloggers to post freely without being limited. From 2023 Google started deliberately not to index content for many bloggers. In 2024 it started favouring big sites like The Star, Standard Media,,Nation,Citizen and other established websites. Even if your content is super good, Google will ignore it and instead index related content from authority sites. Hata kama they copied from a small site, the authority sites will rank higher than your site. Google has not been as free as it used to be years ago where merit was considered. Right now, if you create a new blog, you will wait for at least 15 years to start ranking as good as Nation ,Citizen,Standard or The Star,it doesn’t matter how good your content is,kama wewe ni mgeni, utangoja sana.

Google Core update of 2024 worsened the situation. More than 70% of small blogs lost traffic to authority sites. Hivo ni kuwaambia kwa kipole,”toka soko”.Currently, even with thousands of high quality articles, you will not perform well as a blogger. You will work extremely hard but at the end of the day make Ksh 50 from AdSense. What is Ksh 50?!!!

Right now if you are planning to become a blogger, you better drop the idea. It’s better you start a grocery shop than run a Blog-This is a useless profession at the moment.

The only bloggers who made enough money are those who started earlier. From 2007 to 2022 your efforts paid. You could wake up, create 10 blog posts, get indexed and at the end of the day make Ksh 10,000.But today, even if you post 30 articles per day, making even Ksh 1,000 is a miracle. Your blog can even get 50,000 views and you still make less than Ksh 3,000. This is unfair!

I have interacted with many Kenyan bloggers, most of them want to quit. They efforts aren’t bearing fruits. They can’t spend 20 hours creating content and earn Ksh 3,000 per month. They better look for employment elsewhere.

From this year 2024, Google will lose especially content from Kenyan bloggers. Only the authority sites will remain. Unless the company starts treating bloggers and authority sites fairly, they will see a big change. This will be a blow to Google because they may lack useful information.

  • How much does YouTube pay for 10,000 views in Kenya

How much does YouTube pay for 10,000 views in Kenya

With 10,000 views, you will earn Ksh 1,000 to Ksh 3, 000.RPM is the parameter YouTube uses to measure the amount of money they will pay you.RPM means income for 1000 views. For every 1,000 views on a YouTube channel, you will make Ksh 50 to Ksh 200.

YouTube income is contributed by the type and location of traffic and the niche of your content. If more than 90% of the traffic is from USA, you will make Ksh 3,000 t Ksh 5,000 for every 10,000 views. If more than 90% of the traffic is from Kenya and Africa in general, you will make Ksh 1,000 to Ksh 3,000 per 10,000 views.

Your channel might get 10,000 views and still generate more than Ksh 1000.If you notice this, it’s because your content is not appealing enough to your audience, they don’t watch full videos—most of them watch a section and leave without viewing the adverts.

The type of your content also determines the amount of money you’ll make. The highest paying niches are: Mobile Loans, entertainment, education, career, real estate and banking.

As you create content, always have this in mind, that content is king. Make sure that your videos are of high quality and useful for your audience for them to get the best engagement.

  • How much money do you get for 1 million views on YouTube in Kenya?

How much money do you get for 1 million views on YouTube in Kenya?

I know many of you are yearning to get 1 million views on YouTube. Well, if your channel manages to get an average of 1 million views monthly, you will earn Ksh 100,000 to Ksh 300,000.

A couple of years ago,1 million views could generate up to Ksh 500,000 but the money has reduced over time because majority of Kenyan companies have reduced advertising budget, there are also many YouTubers in the country.

There are a number of factors that determine the income your channel will generate monthly.

    1. Quality and length of the video
    2. Geographical source of the traffic
    3. Niche of your content
    4. Number of ads on your videos
    5. Watch time per visitor

Quality and length of your videos

High quality videos attract high RPM.If you want to earn more money, make your video longer than 10 minutes.

If your video is informative, more engaging and entertaining, your viewers will watch to the end, implying that they will be viewing the Ads on them.

    Geographical source of the traffic

Videos viewed from USA and Europe earn more money than those views from Kenya.1 million Kenyan traffic will generate Ksh 150,000 but the same amount of traffic will generate Ksh 500,000 to Ksh 1 million if it’s from USA.

Whenever you create content, think of how to attract traffic from USA and Europe. The ideal traffic from USA and Europe should be above 20%. With this ratio, your channel will make an average of Ksh 200,000 per month from 1 million views.

    Niche of your content

Don’t just create content to get views, be keen on which niche your interest is. Some niches pay very little while other will pay a lot of money with little traffic.

Here are the highest paying niches for YouTube in Kenya

    1. Mobile Loans
    2. Travel
    3. Sports
    4. Education
    5. Real Estate
    6. Banking
    7. Entertainment
    8. Business
    9. Personal Finance

Choose the right niche that you are passionate about and start creating content. Any of these niches will yield over Ksh 200,000 monthly from 1 million views.

Number of ads and watch time

You should be keen on how many minutes one views your video before leaving. If the watch time is low, then your videos are boring. If each of your visitors watches full videos, then chances of making more money are high. Content is king, which is why I told you earlier that for you to earn decent income from YouTube, your videos should be of high quality, informative, educative and entertaining—don’t be boring!

Other sources of making money on YouTube

When your YouTube channel gets 1 million views, it implies that it’s popular. You will be making money through AdSense and sponsored content. Companies will approach you to advertise their products on your channel. With 1 million monthly views, you will charge Ksh 50,000 to Ksh 200,000 per ad.

Though your AdSense earnings will be your primary source of income, if you position yourself well, you’ll also earn decent income from sponsored content and affiliate marketing.

How to get approved by YouTube in Kenya

    1. Your channel should be at least 12 months’ old
    2. Watch time hours of at least 4000
    3. Have uploaded three or more public videos in the past 90 days
    4. Your videos should be original
    5. At least 500 subscribers

To get 1 million views consistently, you should upload videos regularly. You should also have more than 50,000 subscribers. If you get 100k subscribers, you won’t struggle to get 1 million views.

  • Is blogging profitable in Kenya 2024

Is blogging profitable in Kenya 2024

Blogging has always remained a profitable venture for Kenyan content creators. Even as many youths would like to join the venture, their main interest is to know whether it’s still profitable in 2024. My answer is yes. However, it’s not as profitable as it used to be 5-10 years ago.

My blogging journey started in 2011 and I was monetizing with AdSense by then. I used to get 500,000 to 3 million views monthly. That time, if your blog got 1 million views, AdSense paid more than Ksh 200,000. In 2024 if your blog gets 1 million views, you’ll make less than Ksh 150,000.

During Kibaki era, the economy was growing and companies were spending on advertisements. Google was their main advertising platform. But in 2024 the dollar is performing extremely well against the shilling, companies are struggling—they are not advertising on Google. AdSense revenue for all bloggers is low. Bloggers depending on AdSense are suffering. I know of a couple of them who used to make more than Ksh 300,000 months, right now their monthly income is below Ksh 70,000 yet traffic has not changed.

Due to the low income from AdSense, bloggers have found a way to increase their revenues. If you visit sites like Kahawa Tungu and Cyprian Nyakundi, you’ll notice that they have started posting contents from USA, they are targeting USA traffic. This is the only way they can earn decent income from AdSense.

Though AdSense is not doing so well in Kenya, there are other ways bloggers are making money. One AdSense alternative is affiliate marketing. Bloggers have created niche sites which market products for companies like Jumia, betting sites and web hosting services. Affiliate marketing is more profitable than AdSense.

With the era of TikTok and YouTube, nowadays people prefer watching videos to reading text. Unless your content is excellent, unless your content contains keywords that people search for, you won’t be making money to sustain you as a blogger.

Bloggers earning reasonable income through their blogs are few. Most of them don’t depend on AdSense, they have other sources of income. Here are ways experienced Kenyan bloggers make money:

    1. Through AdSense
    2. Through AdSense alternative like MGID
    3. Through selling of their own items
    4. Through TikTok
    5. Through affiliate marketing
    6. Sponsored content
    7. Direct Banner ads
    8. Providing web hosting services

Amount of money Kenyan bloggers make
