Why Apple Smartphones are not popular in Kenya

Kenyans love smartphones, surprisingly, Apple is not among the list of their most preferred smartphones.

One reason they are not enthusiastic about iPhone smartphones is their price. Kenyans are sensitive about three things: camera, internal memory and battery. When they realize a certain company, regardless of whether it’s Apple, Samsung, Infinix or Tecno, is selling a phone with features they want, they will all buy that phone. The most discouraging thing about iPhone is that those with desirable features are expensive.

Another reason Apple smartphones are not popular in Kenya is that few shops stock them. Electronic shops in Kenya sell fast moving phones only, like Infinix and Tecno, they believe iPhone won’t move as fast as they would expect and can result to losses.

For a fact Apple phones are the best but not when it comes to the Kenyan market. Research shows that the most preferred brands are:

  1. Infinix
  2. Samsung
  3. Tecno
  4. Huwaei
  5. HTC

Any brand outside the 5 brands should do aggressive marketing for it to topple the most popular brands.

The most disturbing thing about Apple phones is,a phone costs Ksh 40,000 and if you examine its features, you will be shocked that they are equivalent to those of a Ksh 7,999 Infinix phone .Since majority of Kenyans aren’t ready to spend above Ksh 10,000,they automatically pick Infinix over iPhone…they don’t care about the brand.

In Kenya, people are now shifting to online buying and the most popular e-commerce store is Jumia. You can check here how they sell their phones
