The Kenyan political class owns it from huge tracts of lands, luxurious cars to choppers. To win seats, politicians need to access every nook and cranny in a bit to get all the votes. Having a chopper is a status symbol and displays one’s financial muscle.

According to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, there has been an increase in choppers because of the forthcoming August general elections.

Here we look into the nuts and bolts of the Kenyan politicians who like to take it to the skies.

1.       Uhuru Kenyatta

The President owns several choppers, with his most preferred helicopter being the 5Y JNM. He occasionally lends it out, and it was the same chopper that Purity Ngirichi used while campaigning for the Kirinyaga Woman Representative seat. Some of the helicopters, including the B3e and B3+, go way back to his father’s reign.

2.       William Ruto

The deputy president is well known for transversing with helicopters. He owns an Aerospatiale 350B3 and Ecureuil Eurocopter.In total,Ruto owns 4 choppers

3.       Ephraim Maina

Former Mathira MP has three choppers to his name. Two Bell choppers with 5Y-PSM and 5Y-MNW registration numbers, and the third one is not yet registered.

4.       Musalia Mudavadi

Musalia owns two choppers, one a Eurocopter B4 with the registration Number 5Y-TXM, which costs KSH 210 million. He recently acquired the latest chopper to use the bird for the August Elections.

5.       Raila Odinga

The former Premier owns a high-performance Bell 407 chopper with a massive space cabin. It is designed to detect terror attacks, an exemplary safety approach for Mr. Odinga.

6.       Willam Kabogo

Kabogo is well known to be a top-tier rich politician. He has shown his financial might by owning a Eurocopter AS350B3 with the registration number 5Y-EXK.

7.       Gideon Moi

The Baringo Senator owns the same model chopper as Uhuru Kenyatta’s Eurocopter AS350B2. It is ideal for flying high and transporting heavy loads.

8.       Kalonzo Musyoka

Kalonzo’s helicopter crashed in Tanzania while campaigning for the Chama Cha Mapinduzi though he was repaid. He still doesn’t own one, but with the nearing general elections, he is likely to dig down into his pockets.

9.       Peter Kenneth

Mr. Kenneth recently acquired a Cessna Grand Caravan, adding his tally to two helicopters.

10.   Mwai Kibaki

The former president shuns off from the attention of the media. He owns a chopper by the registration number 5Y FEW.
