One of my readers asked whether it’s possible to write viral articles, articles that receive thousands of page views per day. My answer was yes, but I promised him I would write an article explaining in details on how to do it.

To begin with, I would like to take Venas News as a case study. This blog receives more than 98% of its traffic from search engines.Surprisingly, the blog gets over 30,000 page views per day. Though some of the articles we write get less than 1,000 visits, we can confirm that more than 50 % of our articles go viral. We have a secret, which you will learn below.

What other bloggers always ask, “how do you manage to get all that traffic yet your Facebook page is not active and your Twitter account has only 126 followers?”(Here is a link to my Facebook page, it has less than 6,000 likes…but I will start getting serious with it https://www.facebook.com/venasnews/). My answer has always been, write what readers are searching for.Earlier,I talked about Long Tail Keywords, this is what I have mastered over time and it helps my website rank higher than my competitors’ websites.

Before you write any blog post, remember there are factors that would determine whether the article will go viral or not. One of the factors is whether it’s breaking news or not. If your website is dedicated to informing the public about breaking news, it will definitely become extremely popular. But, while you are into breaking news, make sure you are always the first to inform the general public.

Another reason why your blog might be popular is if it contains controversial information. People love controversial information, like exposing politicians, corporates and celebrities. A website of this nature can be extremely popular but vulnerable.

Another important factor that would make your blog go viral is when it becomes “authority” in its niche. Authority means every blogger in that niche trails the website in terms of packaging information and popularity. Authority blog is known by every reader in that niche and before any reader moves to another blog, he must first read the authority blog. The content in authority blog ranks first in all the search engines. The reason why this is the case is because search engines believe this blog has factual and useful information. To become an authority blog, the website must be old in the niche and also contains very useful information; it must also have several sites linking to it.

While many bloggers tend to increase their traffic by sponsoring articles on Facebook, this method is only meant to achieve short term results. No matter how hard you share your articles on Facebook and Twitter, if your blog content is not worth reading, the readers will eventually get bored with your site, which will result to significant fall in traffic numbers. As a blogger, you should focus more on improving your organic traffic rather than social media traffic. I believe you are aware that social media traffic produces dismal result when it comes to AdSense. If you are currently relying on AdSense, start focusing on organic traffic…traffic from Google, Bing, Yahoo and ASK. To increase organic traffic, you have to use the right keywords, increase the number of sites linking to your blog, promote your site using SEO tools like SEMrush and update your content on regular basis.

One of the most important things in blogging is the company hosting your site. Some companies suspend your site when it exceeds the amount of resources it’s allocated while others charge you more when your site exceeds the resources’ prefer one that charges extra amount than the one that suspends a website. This is why I decided to migrate my websites to Kinsta (you can click here to see their plans). The good thing about Kinsta is that no matter how much traffic your site receives, it can’t go down. The web hosting company has powerful servers which sustain thousands of concurrent visitors. Most bloggers aren’t aware that a particular hosting company can either kill your site or make it go viral. If a company suspends your site during traffic spikes, your readers will move to the next available site and most of them won’t return to your site. So,for you to grow your site to become viral, you have to choose a hosting company with servers that automatically scale up during traffic spikes.

For a blogger whose site is receiving low traffic, the only practical ways of improving the traffic is by:

  • Employing correct long tail keywords
  • Having fresh content on your site
  • Sharing your content on social media
  • Using SEO tools to improve your blog SEO ranking
  • Focusing on niches that have many readers. The niches include entertainment, politics, jobs, controversial topic and breaking news.
  • Ensure your blog is “authority” in your niche
  • Write articles readers are excited to read
  • Avoid many grammatical errors

After you have followed the aforementioned tricks, you will start noticing an improvement in the number of page views.
