JOB TITLE: Senior Technical Officer – Implementation Research
Job Summary:
The purpose of this job Is to strengthen iron folic acid supplementation through research in maternal nutrition in selected counties in collaboration with other implementing partners and stake holders and at national level and apply research findings to improve effectiveness of anemia control activities. Works closely with senior program staff to develop, implement, monitor, manage implementation science activities including implementation research studies; designs research management systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and manage one or more counties carrying out implementation science management and support activities. Work closely with senior program staff to conduct implementation research studies by taking the lead in assigned research activities among them, site training, protocol development, project management, study implementation, data analyses, data monitoring, data management, clinical monitoring, paper/report drafting. Represent FHI360 at developing county project sites, regulatory meetings, donor meetings and professional meetings as needed. Coordinate and provide technical assistance to Research Assistants and assigned support staff as needed. Responsible for reporting and tracking of key indicators for monitoring and evaluation of site performance and/or data quality. Ensure compliance of assigned studies with Good Clinical Practice’s (GCP’s), FDA, FHI360 policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Perform other related duties as assigned.
Contribution:
Develop systems for implementation research support. Prepares data monitoring plans, data analysis plans, protocols, final reports and/or publications. Monitor the qualitative and quantitative progress of research implementation activities via site visits, telecommunications, letters and e-mail; oversees study-specific reporting and tracking of key indicators for evaluation of site performance and study progress. Prepares budgets and necessary agreements. Preparation of study administration and analysis tools. Assists with study regulatory submissions Files adverse events with IRB
Expertise and Complexity:
With minimal supervision, manage high volume work flow. Excellent written, verbal, organizational skills. Expert knowledge of systems used in research implementation. Knowledge of public health research and methodology as related to data collection instruments, data collection and analysis. Knowledge of and ability to use electronic data processing systems to gather, store, retrieve and analyze data. Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative statistical methods used in data analysis. Experience using relevant software packages such as SPSS, SAS, Epi Info, N6, AnSWR, Ethnograph, NUDIST and Anthropac. Resourceful in resolving problems and initiating solutions.
Minimum Requirements
Education/Experience:
MS Human Nutrition or MPH Nutrition and 5-7 years relevant experience and professional level of knowledge and expertise in research methods and application. BS in Human Nutrition or related field and 7-9 years relevant experience and professional level of knowledge and expertise in research methods and application may be considered. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with program staff, students, interns, volunteers and community members from diverse backgrounds is required.
