Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
The UN-Habitat Data Analysis and Literature Review internship is for 4 months with a possibility for extension depending on the needs of the Organization.
The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background; the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period.
Under the direct supervision of Coordinator, Urban Economy and Finance Branch, the intern will:
– Support the compilation of a comprehensive excel data sheet which covers the range of academic articles and official government reports worldwide on municipal and sub national finance.
– Collect and verify data on municipal and sub national finance.
– Create an Excel file for easy data analysis.
– Create a list of relevant sources and repositories of relevant data.
– Support project lead on ad-hoc issues around the office.

Education
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Preferred Area of Studies:
Economics, Economic Development, Finance, Public Policy, Statistics or related field.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable.

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UNHABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing Administrative, conference, Security and information services (www.unon.org).
The UNON Language Programme internship is for 3 months with a possibility for extension depending on the needs of the Organization.

Language Programme Administration
– Provide information about the Language Programme (LP) offer and manage the LP Reception.
– Assist in the language programme registration i.e. receiving and filing registration forms, advising clients on courses, class times and any other course information.
– Organize and arrange the classroom set-up, ensure each class is well equipped with the required teaching equipment and stationery.
– Generate and update statistics.
– Prepare student certificates.
– Manage library books and DVDs and sell course books.
– Assist LP teachers.
– Develop a client database and assist with the LP, Moodle platform.
– Post term and class schedules on the bulletin board and noticeboard.
– Digitalize end of term results for all students and prepare language progress reports.
Communication and Marketing:
– Update the Language programme website i.e. update term dates, post class schedules, advertise language and communication courses.
– Manage the UNON Language Programme email account and maintain correspondence with students.
– Generate mailing lists of past and potential clients.
– Prepare and distribute marketing materials (flyers, posters).
– Any other duties that will be assigned.
