In the world of today having a university degree is not a guarantee for employment, you can have several academic papers but still end up being jobless. There are several underlining reasons why graduates who possess excellent academic qualifications end up being jobless for so long that they become a laughing stock.

If you are among graduates who are still struggling to find a footing in the job market, you could be committing the following mistakes.

Being Choosy

The most disgusting thing about well-educated people is that they are too choosy. You know, the best way to find a footing in a well-paying company is by starting small. You find a whole graduate, who possess a first class qualification from a prestigious school saying, “if I better stay jobless than being a messenger in your company”. This attitude itself makes the employer think that your bloated ego cold mess up his company if by chance you are given opportunity to work for him.

You can bear me witness than highly educated people, especially those individuals who possess masters and PhD qualifications don’t want to start small. They think by accumulating more and more paper, they should be made the managers. One thing I want to tell them is that the world has changed, today employers are looking at talent and not what you possess in terms of academic qualifications.

You don’t have required skills

The modern world has embraced technology. You will realize that world over, careers which are trending include medicine, software engineering, forensic science, piloting, social media related programs and nursing.Traditionally, these careers were not so important because technology was not advanced enough to necessitate the ever growing demand.

One of the reasons why you are jobless is because your skills don’t match want employers are looking for-you can read any article touching on useless careers to learn whether your skills lean towards that direction.

You don’t networking.

Networking is very important, and since it contributes to 60 % of the total chances of securing employment, it is therefore deemed necessary for any jobseeker.

Jobseekers always think that by applying for advertised jobs, employment will automatically come. My friend, you have to get out of your comfort zone, meet people, interact and inquire where there are opportunities. By not networking, you will find it rough in your journey towards employment.

Poor CV and Cover letter

You know, a professional CV and well written cover letter will significantly increase your chances of getting employment. A poor CV means that short listing personally will always skip your documents as they sort out applications to select the best. You are always reminded that first impression matters, and of course your know during job search your CV and cover letter represents your person and personality, meaning that they are your first impression.

Before you do everything, make sure your CV looks excellent and your cover letter is impressive.

Interview presentation

The 15 or so minutes you are offered to introduce yourself during interviews matter a lot. Many job seekers usually go blank during the interview session, prompting the interviewer to award them low marks. This means that even if you have impressive documents, your chances of securing employment are slim.

If you have attended at least 10 interviews and no employer has offered you a job, it’s time you go for training on how to conduct yourself during interviews.
