Wealth is what everyone aims at but as nature dictates, we are not equal. In Nairobi, the hustle and bustle of every single day force people to pursue illegal businesses so as to make both ends meet. In the process of venturing into these businesses, they end up becoming rich. Quick money is not easy to come but some of the illegal businesses guarantee quick cash, which is why most Kenyans have resolved to take risks as long as they fill their bank accounts. If you didn’t know, these are some of the common illegal businesses people do in Nairobi to get quick money

Printing Fake secondary and university certificates

Streets like Moi Avenue and River Road are known for this business. Since some Kenyans don’t want to earn their degrees genuinely, or are barred from joining university education due to low grades, they end up buying fake degrees. It is believed that with as little as Ksh10, 000, you can get a high school certificate, while a university degree costs at least Ksh20, 000.

Selling Fake Gold

Smart conment, some of them targeting gullible foreigners would approach you with fake gold. These people have rich English accent, eloquent, convincing and rich. They are so smart that they can sell you your own smartphone. If you fall into their trap, they will make quick cash and disappear.

Printing fake money

Wash wash is the business that involves printing fake cash. The people involved in this business obtain money printing machines from China or Dubai, and also printing papers. Then they will make several copies of genuine notes.

Since Kenyans want to get rich quickly, they will be convinced by these smart people that they Ksh1,000 note will produce Ksh1 million notes. They are told to part with, say Ksh 20,000, and wait for a day or two to get their million—-that is the last time you will see the conmen.

Touting

Touting is a serious business in Kenya, especially in Nairobi. This business is half genuine-half illegal because of many reasons. Since the law does not allow touting, we regard the business as illegal. To shock you, in a single day a tout in Nairobi makes Ksh5, 000-Ksh15, 000.In fact, most touts I have interacted with confidently say that in a bad day they make Ksh5,000,which is more than what a medical doctor earns.

If you are a university graduate, earning less than Ksh100, 000, know that a tout in Nairobi makes more money than you.

Water

Selling bottled water is a booming business in Nairobi. Since established companies like Keringet and Menengai sell their bottled water a bit expensive, many buyers shun them. In the process, several people have come up with their own bottled water. What happens here is that these people buy empty bottles, then obtain the seal from individuals working in those popular companies .Boil and pack  tap water. This is the water you buy in the streets of Nairobi.

Selling children

Adoption is a hectic process and requires one to have a lawyer and follow strict procedures. Since many Kenyans want to easily have children, they approach midwives and nurses. You have heard cases of newborn babies disappearing from hospitals, or the mother taking home a wrong child-that is the work of a nurse and a midwife.

This business is lucrative. A single child costs more than Ksh1 million.

This business is, however, illegal and anyone found conducting it will serve a jail term of up to 50 years.

Selling drugs

Drug cartels are very present in Nairobi and Mombasa despite efforts by President Kenyatta to end the menace. Heroine, bhang and cocaine are expensive, which is why some of the richest people in Kenya engage in this kind of business.

The business can earn you quick cash but if you are caught, you will serve a jail term of not less than 10 years. This kind of business should be avoided at all costs.

Gambling machines

Nowadays betting machines are everywhere. To get a single machine, you need Ksh20,000 but with this machine, you can make up to Ksh30,000 per day. You should be aware that it’s illegal to operate such business in Kenya without a license.
